Move Analysis

Levels and attacks listed are as they pertain to the Fire Red and Leaf Green (FR/LG) versions, unless otherwise noted. Some of the listings of when the attacks may have been used in the movies may be a stretch, but they are just guesses and for fun.

Mew is shown attacking much less often or diversely than Mewtwo, so I need to be even more free here. Things get even trickier, as Mew can learn EVERY LEARNABLE MOVE, regardless of if it is logical or not. So this is going to be fun. =P

The Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness Mew Man

After completeing this game, you will come across a man looking for the Pokemon that can learn all attacks (hint: look at this massive list). If you have Mew in Ruby, Sapphire, Fire Red, Leaf Green, or Emerald, transfer her to XD, show the man, and answer some questions, the man will generate a moveset for Mew from a pool of over 100 attacks. Most of these can be gained in FR/lG and RSE, whether learned naturally, with TM/HMs, or with Move Tutors, but there are some moves that he can teach Mew that are not learnable in any other way in this generation of games. These unique moves are:

The Gold, Silver, and Crystal Transform/Sketch Trick

I have not tried this myself, but I saw it on what seems to be a reputable site, and plus it sounds convincing.

  1. For this to work, the target Mew will need to know Transform. It says it will work with Ditto too, so you know. Snag a friend, or use another GSC Game and Gameboy. Get a Smeargel that knows at least one attacking attack and Sketch. Also get another Pokemon that has the move you want to give to Mew but no other moves (erase the others if you have to, at the move erasing guy).

  2. Do Mystery Gift between this game and the game with Mew on it.

  3. In the Mew Game, go to the Trainer House where you can battle a computer-controlled copy of the last person you Mystery Gifted with and start the match.

  4. Send Mew out against Smeargel and use Transform to transform into the Smeargel. Then defeat the Smeargel using the attacking attack.

  5. Leave the Smeargel-Mew in to battle the Pokemon with the one move you want. When the opponent uses the move, Sketch it to give the move to Smeargel-Mew. After the battle is over, Mew will hopefully still have the desired move. You can apparently use this trick to get virtually any move on Mew or Ditto, including moves that are usually specific to certain Pokemon.
