Contests
Prestigious Logo Design Contest
Contest deadline: March 1st, 2008, but get it in early if you can!
Since I have been having trouble drawing something I like, I'm going to have a contest for a new logo image to be on top of the menu bar. Your entry must either have clean coloring (like digital art), or else be lineart, and I can color it for you. It also needs to be small, about the size of the image currently on the top of the menu bar, or else be able to resize without getting ugly. It can be horizontal, vertical, or square. Entries will be judged by myself, though I will also ask the opinion of my brother and an impartial friend or two, to ensure fairness. The winner's prize will be for their art to appear at the top of every page of this website for several months, plus all associated bragging rights. Other entries will be posted in the Fan Art section to be admired. Please participate if you can, and good luck!

- It was a tough decision, and required lots of discussion with nonpartisan friends, but the winner is decreed as Wee the axolotl! Congratulations! And thank you to everyone else who submitted (and people who wanted to submit something, but like me, were buried in work and unable to do so. I still appreciate your wanting to participate). Wee's work won because it looked best when made small and purple (I had to make all of them purple to work on the background. Sorry for editing your work. I should have specified transparent or an exact purple background. I'll know for next time). It also has nice art, the words are clear, and I like the DNA. A critique is it might look better with a bit more contrast in the coloring, but it still looks quite spiffy.
- The entry by Gemma was very discussed. Everyone I asked said they liked the design, but felt it was slighted by being displayed so small, and it didn't look as good converted to purple. I am going to use it on the splash page for awhile, because it looks like it would make a really good splash image, rather than a sidebar logo (and that splash page image needs updating, gah!)
- The entry by Dog Ears had really nice art on it, but there were some size issues (not the fault of the artist). It is still great art though, everyone should go admire Dog Ears's fanart page.
- The entry by Keep deserves lots of kudos for being the most logo-ish of all the entries. I like the simple silhouettes and glowing eyes. However, I am not sure if the font shift was the best idea, and I see what the goal was for adding the glow effect on the tail, but it is a little distracting, and may have been better without. You definitely understood what I was looking for though! Please continue making art, and send in some more fanart! =)
