In Japan, there are things called CD Dramas. They are stories on CDs, a bit like radio shows. The Birth of Mewtwo is one of these Japanese CD Dramas. It tells the story of Mewtwo's birth (as you might have guessed). The Birth of Mewtwo also comes with a Drama Booklet containing some awesome images I wish I had more and better scans of *hint* Besides the full story of Mewtwo, The Birth of Mewtwo reveals little known characters such as Madam Boss (Giovanni's mom), Miyamoto (Jessie's Mom), and Ai (Dr. Fuji's daughter). It also a great deal more about Mew and Dr. Fuji. The Birth of Mewtwo is only available to the Japanese fan base, but it can be purchased at places such as Amazon.com or other such online stores. Besides the whole CD Drama format that they probably assumed wouldn't fly, I think the dubbers eliminated the story of the Drama because little kids would not understand it. It has a very good plot and moral, but the age group that the dubbed Pokemon is geared for is too young. They would probably become frightened and may get the wrong message. However, without it, we lose the whole meaning of Mewtwo's life. He is not just some super-powerful Pokemon out to destroy the world. He is confused and angry. He lost his only friend, Ai. He was given some sort of chemicals to make him sleep and forget her. He was confused and abandoned. He is the way he is for a reason--a good reason too. Luckily for us older fans of Mewtwo, there are translators! The translation offered below and most of the pictures belong to Mondu at BOM in Translation, a site that no longer seems to exist. Yes, they actually DID dub the Birth of Mewtwo CD Drama! It is called Mewtwo's Origin and was apparently added to the beginning of The First Movie: Mewtwo Strikes Back on certain special DVDs. How unfair is that?! It was also included on every Mewtwo Returns DVD. But, if you are, like me, not one of those lucky Mewtwo fans with the DVD, it is downloadable, though I recommend reading the Drama translations first. The dubbers actually did a pretty good job with this one, but some of the deeper meanings (ones that I especially like) were lost.
