Anime Music Videos
Hey all! This page is a list of some of the good Mew and Mewtwo related Anime Music Videos that I have found. In case you don't know, an Anime Music Video, or AMV, is a fan-made music video taking some music (usually that is befitting of the subject) and syncing anime clips to it. AMVs can be pretty entertaining.
Feel free to send in any Mew and/or Mewtwo related AMVs that you find or make, but be aware that I have fairly stringent rules as to what constitutes a good AMV. For instance, the anime clips used need to be edited to fit the rhythm of the song. Generally, songs with a good beat work better. I cringe when I see flashy, unnecessary scene transitions. Long, drawn out, boring clips are a serious negative, as is reusing the same clips, or taking clips from intros. Good lip-syncing is a plus.
- AMV by JamesKojiro, if I remember correctly
- One of the best Mewtwo AMV's. It takes scenes from the entire Mewtwo Saga, and fits the song, which really also fits Mewtwo. I like how the clips are put together in such a way that it looks like Mewtwo resurrects Ash ("If not for me, then you'd be dead").
- AMV by Gemma
- Another one of the best Mewtwo AMV's, this one focusing on the First Movie. It is a perfect example of why fast songs with strong beat are a good choice for these types of scenes. It also shows the value of editing clips and putting them together well!
Pokemon Legendary - Music Unidentified
- WARNING: direct download; requires RealPlayer
- AMV by Gemma
- This one is mostly about Lugia, but Mew's eye does show up for one second. Really! Aw, I just liked this AMV too much to resist putting it up...
Say My Name - Within Temptation
- AMV by RosyCrystal
- And this one shows how to use a slower song! The video sums up The Birth of Mewtwo. The lyrics really fit Mewtwo and Amber, and the video also matches the lyrics. For instance "As colors come alive" is sung as Ai's memories transition from black & white to colored, and "You drift away" when Ai disintegrates. The video clips used are a little repetitive, but then, there isn't a whole lot of footage of Amber to go on, heh.
Breaking the Habit - Linkin Park
- AMV by KatDaBrat
- This one is an original take on Mewtwo's story, more from Ash's perspective. There are some boring parts, but the chosen scenes work together overall, and there is a little bit of well done lip-syncing.
Shout at the Devil - The Motley Crue
- AMV by Storm the Red
- A nice sum up of Mewtwo Returns. Most of it matches the rhythm of the song, but there is a little over-reliance on added-in white flashes. Still pretty good though!
Conflict - Disturbed Deleted by Shogakukan Production Co. Ltd.*
- AMV by Gladson91
- The song is simple, but it fits the "clones fighting the originals" theme. The video matches the transitions between slow and fast parts of the song well. It's a little boring at times, particularly while the Charizard are fighting, but other than that, pretty good. I do not support the uncredited use of fanart on the title screen though. Boo, hiss.
Eden - Sarah Brightman Deleted by Shogakukan Production Co. Ltd.*
- AMV by Peanutbuttermewtwo
- A calm, reflective AMV, using a lot of the scenic and water-related shots from the Mewtwo saga. It also shows visual analogies from across the Birth of Mewtwo, Mewtwo Strikes Back, and Mewtwo Returns, some of which I never noticed before.
If Only Tears Could Bring You Back - Midnight Sons Deleted by Shogakukan Production Co. Ltd.*
- AMV by Peanutbuttermewtwo
- Argh, this official Mewtwo Strikes Back pop song sounds awful, but the words work really well with Dr. Fuji and Mewtwo's reactions to Amber's death. This video also uses some really good cues. I like the part where it says "one last dance" and Amber twirls.
- AMV by death2falsegods
- Nicely done. A little jumpy in parts, but, overall, it works with the music well. Good use of explosions and fighting scenes! I just wish that the glitches at the end and between scenes were fixed.
Plagues - The Prince of Egypt Deleted, probably by Shogakukan Production Co. Ltd.*
- AMV by MewsDestiny
- Wow, that is an unexpected but excellent music selection! You won't like this AMV if you are 4Kids (or otherwise oversensitive to use of the G-word), but I think it is pretty good. It's about how Mewtwo and Giovanni were once partners, but now mortal enemies, and Mewtwo must fight him for the freedom of the other clones and himself. I'm just not sure of the use of black and white scenes... This AMV also has some lip-syncing of Giovanni, which is not perfect, but very a admirable attempt.
* Shogakukan Production Co. Ltd. is, as far as I have been able to tell, the company responsible for making Pokemon DVDs. They also have a very strange attitude when it comes to YouTube. They take action against fanworks such as AMVs and flash animations involving Pokemon, yet entire Pokemon films have sat unchallenged on YouTube for ages. Shogakukan, if you are reading this, please stop taking action against your fans. Fans love your product, and express their love through creative works. I would understand if there was an AMV which contained a large chunk of a Pokemon film completely unedited, but most fanworks I have seen before they were deleted seemed to be fair in their use of Pokemon footage. I don't know anything about the law, but I'm just saying, I highly doubt that you will be hurt by any of the above AMVs. I would think they might even help promote your product, for free! Your time would probably be better spent going after those entire films I mentioned, rather than these fanworks. Just my two cents.
